The musical journey of Meg Davis

Born as Megan Elizabeth Davis and raised in the United States, Megan developed a passion for singing by listening and memorizing songs she heard on the radio. Soon her goal was to become the next Shania Twain. Not realizing of course that her musical journey would turn a completely different direction all together. At the age of 12 Megan moved to The Netherlands and she broadened her musical pallet by singing for different band ranging from Rock, Pop, Rock-a-Billy and Metal. But, even though she began to love singing even more. Something just didn’t feel right..

And then she found love in the form of Turkish folk music. After being introduced to Turking folk music by Kemal Dinç. She knew she had found her place in music and never looked back. Soon after the choice was made to join the Anatolian department of the Codarts University for the Arts in Rotterdam where she’s been studying Turkish Folk music since 2012 and performed her bacholar performance in in 2017 and her master thesis performance under the name Melez in August of 2019.

And she didn’t stop at studying and performing Turkish Folk music in The Netherlands. Thanks to the Erasmus Exchange Program, Megan moved to Izmir for 7 months and studied at the Ege Universitesi where she met amazing teachers, musicians and musical idols such as Cengiz Özkan, Serpil Kaya (TRT) and Makebule Kaya. In 2018 she made the jaws of the jury of O Ses Turkye drop to the floor when she performed the song Kimseye tmem şikayet during the blind auditions.

Megan has been teaching privately since 2011 but in 2017 it was time to take the next step in her musical journey when she officially started as a music teacher for School of Music. Teaching and inspiring young and old with individual lessons, group lessons and music workshops for kids.

The folk song that had the most influence on her in her decision to change her major to Turkish Folk Music was a song from Manisa province called ‘Red Wheat’. Davis has also recently completed her studies in music academy on Turkish Folk Music with a score of 8.5.
